Arup

Engineering and architecture

Do you know what the famous Sydney Opera House, Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Penguin Pool in London Zoo all have in common? Arup worked on all of these iconic structures. From Stedelijk Museum, the Van Brienenoord bridge, Echo and Energy Academy, the first energy neutral campus buildings in the Netherlands: we help shape a better world. Dedicated to sustainable development, we are a collective of 18,000 engineers, advisors, designers, urban planners and specialists working in all parts of the built environment and beyond. In the Netherlands, we are helping cities improve the resilience of urban areas to tackle climate change and promote active mobility like cycling. What that looks like? Take Zuidasdok, where we’re at the forefront of turning Amsterdam’s business district into a vibrant city centre, with a completely renewed Station Amsterdam Zuid, that’s focussed on connecting cyclists and pedestrians. Our experts are working on buildings that are climate positive and nature inclusive, paving the way for a built environment that is regenerative, sequestering carbon and restoring biodiversity. We’ve been a pioneer in building with timber, because we believe using biobased materials is essential in meeting our climate goals. Our 73-metres tall timber residential building HAUT has been awarded the Dutch Timber Building Award 2022. If you’ve ever travelled the Netherlands by car, you’ve most likely crossed the bridges we’re helping restore. As a trusted partner of Rijkswaterstaat, we play a key role in the circular renovation and renewal of bridges, leading the way in complex challenges that impact our country's busiest infrastructural hubs. And from datacentres to pharmaceutical plants and car manufacturers, we’re helping industry to become more sustainable and significantly lower its impact on climate change. Our Green Factory masterplan focusses on digital and technological innovations, circular economy principles and engaging with local communities. What inspires you? We’re looking forward to meet you at the Business Days Twente and learn more about what drives you, as a future influential in our field.
